Welcome to Mr. Julio's 6th grade Social Studies Class. This is my 16th year of teaching and the past 11 have been at EMS, although this is my first year in this position. I haven't taught 6th grade for 12 years and look forward to returning to some of my roots. I have taught 8th grade English for the past 11 years. 6th grade Social Studies takes a look at World History/Geography and Ancient Civilizations. Students usually enjoy studying Greece, Rome, the Renaissance, and the origin of many civilizations including cultures, customs, and traditions. I will also be taking on a Technology class as it is required for 6th graders. Technology has become an imperative skill in the workplace and is useful in taking the state test in the spring.

6th Grade Social StudiesWorld Geography and Ancient Civilizations: Students will understand the development of the world community within the context of history by examining the past. This curriculum provides a search into the past starting with primitive humans and moving through ancient civilizations, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Students will be introduced to cultures, traditions, geography, political makeup, and economics. The location of continents, countries, and physical land forms, as well as evolving political boundaries will be studied within the context of each civilization studied.

6th Grade TechnologyTechnology is a quarter-long, STEM-focused elective course designed to introduce students to the tools that are essential for professional, academic, and career success. Technology includes a focus on project-based learning infusing science and math with technology. This includes input skill development, Microsoft Office software applications, career exploration activities, STEM related projects, and communication skills.
